Lives on the Line

One phone call can mean the difference between life and death for displaced Iraqis affected by ongoing conflict. Help us make sure there’s someone there to answer that call.

Connecting people with services that help

The idea is simple

A call centre that can connect people to humanitarian assistance. The number: 800 69999.

When the phone rings, the reality of mass displacement suddenly becomes heartbreakingly concrete. Children call to find their parents, mothers call to find medicine for their child, and families call looking for a place to sleep. Through a free helpline, Iraq’s Internally Displaced Persons Information Centre can provide life-saving information to the people who need it most.

The centre provides information on:

  • Accessing information on shelter, food and cash
  • Reporting missing family members
  • Child welfare support
  • Unexploded ordinances
  • Emotional support and suicide prevention
  • Ending domestic abuse
  • Reporting fraud, abuse or harassment of any kind
  • Replacing documents lost during displacement
  • General questions, concerns and complaints

From the city of Erbil (just 50 miles from Mosul), we’ve connected hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens to vital information — for free. But current hostilities within Iraq threaten to displace over a million more people. As the situation on the ground continues to deteriorate, the helpline needs to be ready to connect them to humanitarian information.

Help us make sure that when someone calls for help, we’re on the other end: picking up the phone.
